Disability and Place
All people deserve inclusion in the environments surrounding them including their family, community and work. The problem is due to prejudice and misunderstanding they often feel out of place or not given a place at all. I have gone into different settings including city and remote locations to find those places that represent disabled people's experiences. I draw from 15 years of working as a school social worker as well as formal psychology research. Ideally, my hope is to raise awareness. However, more than that my aim is to show the value, struggle and beauty of all types of abilities . The chair represents the person with disabilities. In some locations the chair may appear out of place, although it is a matter of perspective if something fits there. Noticeably, in all locations the chair adds beauty to the mundane or the spectacular. Everyone deserves a place in the world, even if there hasn't been a seat for them yet.
